Dr. Ben Carson on Sanctuary Cities and Donald Trump — One Answer Might Surprise You

Francisco Sanchez, an illegal alien and felon who’d been deported five times, recently murdered American citizen Kate Steinle. He said he’d returned to San Francisco after being deported because it was a sanctuary city. This tragedy put the leftist city’s ordinance against turning in foreign lawbreakers to the federal government in the spotlight.

Dr. Ben Carson recently appeared on Fox News to discuss this issue. He acknowledges that of course, this country has the ability to secure the borders, but the people in charge don’t have the will to do it. Neil Cavuto asked him what he’d do about the problem.

“…I would secure the borders, north, south, east, and west. That does not necessarily mean you have to build fences and walls. We can take advantage of electronic surveillance, drones, and a variety of technological features. And then, part two is we have to turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies. If there’s no goodies, there’s no reason for people to try to breach our security wall.”

What about the millions of illegal aliens here already?

Dr. Carson said we should allow them to become guest workers. “Register, pay back-taxes and taxes going forward — that does not make them citizens, that does not give them a right to vote.” If illegal alien guest workers want to become citizens, they have to get in the back of the line.

The doctor opposes sanctuary cities and challenged supporters to publicly offer a rational explanation why we need them. “And I can tell them a hundred reasons why we don’t.”

Cavuto asked Dr. Carson about Donald Trump’s “controversial” comments about illegal aliens killing people and tried to steer him into criticizing Trump for pulling the focus from other candidates in a negative way. But Dr. Carson said that as far as candidates go, we need to hear everybody and discuss issues openly.

“I like people who are willing to say what they believe.”

Cavuto gets personal. Listen to the rest of the brief clip.
