WATCH: Huckabee – Our Rights Come From God, Not The Government

Governor Mike Huckabee is retracing the steps of Pope John Paul II, Margaret Thatcher, and Ronald Reagan this week along with David Lane of the American Renewal Project and 100 ministers and faith leaders. The Journey: A Spiritual Awakening was designed to show how “God raises extraordinary leaders for extraordinary times.”

The lives and messages of the Pope, the Prime Minister, and the President “brought hope to generations and freedom to millions by confronting evil everywhere. From their lives and their leadership we can extract immeasurable lessons for every nation wishing to be free and great,” explains Huckabee.

During his speech in London on November 17, the former Arkansas governor said that the sequence in which transformation occurs in a nation in a positive way “is when spiritual leaders put forth biblical truth and the result is political.  The cause is spiritual. We tend to think in America that the cause is political and the results will be spiritual. “

Governor Huckabee said that many people believe if the right people are elected at all levels of government from the city to the county to the Congress and White House,

“…that somehow that will usher in an extraordinary spiritual renewal and revival in the land.  But that is not at all how it really works.  It never has been.  It has always been when truth, elevated by those who are the messengers of God bring that truth to a people and give them something that government cannot give them because government doesn’t have it.  And that is that government can never give people a sense of destiny and hope.”

As an ordained Southern Baptist minister, Huckabee understands, along with the Founding Fathers:

“that government can only serve as an entity to protect and preserve the God-given rights.  But the rights come from God and not the government.  The government can’t take them from us because the government did not give them in the first place.”

Huckabee said that the only reason the government takes those rights is because we allow it to take our rights because we, as a people, have forgotten the origins of these God-given rights and have not instructed our religious leaders and fellow church members where these rights come from.
