Nadra Enzi: One Unintended Advantage COVID-19 Gave Black America

If we’re brutally honest, the COVID-19 scourge may have given Black America an unintended public safety advantage.

Obviously, our disproportionately high life-threatening illness and death rate from this disease isn’t it.

The prime unintended advantage is stay-at-home orders discourage public congregating, long a source of confrontation, robbery, and ballistically settling old scores, often to the deadly detriment of onlookers and passersby.

Some will consider this interpretation too bitter a pill to swallow. My response is you gulped down daily murder, theft, and aggravated assault without complaint.

Stay-at-home orders meant to manage the COVID-19 virus may also be managing viral violence and larceny in our most unsafe areas — American inner cities.

These orders have also shown career criminals used to passive mayors that these elected officials have always had the power to clear the streets and aggressively deploy police. They simply never exercised it.

I invite anyone angered by my perspective to become equally angry at those making urban areas unsafe and unliveable.

After two terms of pampering policies by the previous president of the United States, the hypnotic mantra of mass incarceration, a creeping abolition of cash bail, and now releasing criminals from custody due to infection concerns, there exists a generation who’s never been held responsible for their actions, no matter how heinous nor habitual.

This is one Black hermit’s view of an unintended public safety advantage arising from stay-at-home orders in usually overrun urban areas.

  1. Excellent perspective Cap Black. And another thing that has come from the stay at home orders is the opportunity to actually Meet Your Neighbors, from 6 feet away of course, and be aware of who lives in Your Neighborhood.

  2. Thank you and good perspective on your part too.

  3. I really appreciate your honest perspective, and we need each other.

  4. Hello gentle readers as you have learned in my previous commentaries I am a historian with a very divergent sense of humor and I grew up listening to the great comedians of the 1950s and 1960s such as Jack Benny, Red Foxx. Gorge Burns and Gracie Allen, Moms Mabley, Dewey “Pigmeat” Markham, Rusty Warren, Flip Wilson and too many others to mention. I love imitating their voices to tell jokes especially political jokes. I am a very nasty seventy-three year old retired federal law enforcement from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania how some ever do not mistake age for senility I still remember former Vice President Joseph Robinette “Joe” Biden from those days when I was a handsome twenty-one year old cavalryman (Please be kind because a boy still needs some illusions!) I was told all about Senator Joseph Robinette “Joe” Biden by the reservists in my unit and they referred to him as “Joseph the intellectually challenged” of course the young officer who told me about used Latin to describe him and he was known as an utter pervert even then. If you ask me if I really believe that former Vice President Joseph Robinette “Joe” Biden forgot the alleged rape of his former senatorial aide Tara Reade I must sadly admit that since “good old pervy Uncle Joe” puts the dem in dementia so I believe him!

  5. Interesting points, “Cap Black.” Domestic violence, however, is terribly (and traditionally) underreported in Black community. It’s a deadly gamble.
