Seventh Circuit Allows Indiana’s Law Barring Puberty Blockers and Harmful Procedures for Minors to Remain in Effect

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit upheld an Indiana law that bars puberty blockers and hormone treatment for minors.

Fox News reported that the vote was 2-1.

“Courts have long permitted states to hold closely the power to regulate the practice of medicine,” the judge wrote. “This power is strongest when the safety and effectiveness of the treatment is uncertain.”

The appeals court overturned the lower court’s ruling to block the law and remanded the case back to the lower court for reconsideration in light of this ruling.

The U.S. Supreme Court in December will hear an appeal that challenges Tennessee’s law that bars puberty blockers and harmful procedures for minors.

“By rejecting the injunction against our commonsense state law,” Todd Rokita, Indiana’s attorney general, wrote on X, “dangerous and irreversible gender-transition procedures for minors will remain banned in Indiana.”
