The Tragic Idol of Abortion

As the nation stands with its eyes riveted on the Kavanaugh hearings, we are seeing spiritual warfare at its height. We have been and are continuing to see an epic spiritual battle fought right in front of us. There are so many sides to this battle that one can observe, yet one of the best explanations as to what we are observing is it’s an intense battle between the forces of Light and the forces of Darkness. It’s being fought in the heavenlies and the spirit realm.

Why is this particular battle so intense? What is it that would lead the two sides to be so passionately opposed to each other? Well, one of the key factors is the stand for life and the stand against abortion.

Many people seem to feel that Judge Brett Kavanaugh will help end legalized abortion once he’s on the U.S. Supreme Court. Many believe he could be the swing vote that could end the sad reign of Roe v Wade. For that reason, the other side wants to stop Judge Kavanaugh from being confirmed at all costs. In other words, stop Judge Kavanaugh, no matter what it takes.

Why is legalized abortion so important to so many people? Well, sadly, many people have made abortion an idol. Many “worship” the golden calf of abortion and are willing to fight tooth and nail to keep it in place. For a lot of people, abortion is a big money-making business. For many it’s an easy way out of a difficult circumstance, and many people want to keep it in place so they can keep their “financial benefits” and/or “convenient” tool to use whenever and however they “need” it. The support is significant to keep the idol of abortion legal, so their perspective is, “Don’t you dare even think about overturning Roe v. Wade!”

I believe that we the Church should be diligent and passionate about faithfully doing at least two things:

  • Stand firmly on the truths of God’s Word and trust the Lord.
  • Diligently war in prayer daily. Pray without ceasing.

What should the Church’s stand be on the life issue? How should we decide what side to stand on? Well, the answer is actually very simple. What does the word of God say? In Exodus 20, verse 13, we read: “You shall not murder.” This is a very clear and to the point. God’s Word tells us very clearly, “You shall not murder,” and murder is the taking of innocent life.

Too many in our culture, including persons in the Church, are taking the word “murder” and substituting it with words like “abortion,” “reproductive rights,” and “euthanasia.” They in turn seem to want to believe that murder is okay if you call it by one of these substitute names. Yet whatever name you give the act of taking innocent life, it is still clearly wrong according to the Word of God. Abortion is a sin.

We are also told in Deuteronomy 30:19: “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!”

No of course we serve a merciful and forgiving Heavenly Father. In I John 1:9, we are told, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Without question, if we confess and repent of this or other sin, and ask for his forgiveness, He will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God is full of mercy and lovingkindness. If we simply come to Him and bring this matter, He will receive you, forgive you, and heal you.

May we, the Church of Jesus Christ, not rest until the idol of abortion is torn down and destroyed.

I thank you and all of the faithful and courageous contributors and supporters of Star & BCN. I speak to so many brothers & sisters in Christ who break my heart, as they claim the Name of our Lord and then vote for and debate in line support with deceitful, death-honoring, and racist leadership. It wearies me to watch this cancer of hypocrisy eat away at the Church; acutely the historically black Church. If the Church cannot speak and vote in unity for Life and Biblical marriage and sexual morality, how can we ever expect healing in our homes, congregations, and nation? Jesus weeps …
