What Poorer Blacks In DC Think About Gun Control Might Surprise Liberals

Poorer blacks and affluent whites in the nation’s capital aren’t on the same page when it comes to the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. No doubt it will strike people as odd, considering that both groups tend to overwhelmingly support liberals.

According to a Washington Post poll conducted earlier this month, 51 percent of residents supported banning all guns, with 47 percent opposing it. To the surprise of few, more younger, newer residents (gentrifying liberals who think criminals obey laws?) support a gun ban at a higher rate than the general population.

One of the reasons poorer black residents likely oppose a gun ban more than affluent white liberals is the latter can afford better security and safer neighborhoods. Lower-income blacks tend to live in areas with predatory, fatherless young men.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that D.C.’s handgun ban violated the Constitution. But gun grabbers continue their mission to impinge on the fundamental right to keep and bear arms. The Post reported that a federal court heard arguments today on whether the district can continue restricting gun rights in this way after the Supreme Court struck down the ban.

The district required handgun owners who wanted to carry to give some government bureaucrat a “good reason” for carrying. A judge ordered the city to stop enforcing this requirement. The city contends that the judge, visiting from New York, didn’t have the authority.

Crime is rising in the city, yet the government wants to keep law-abiding residents from protecting themselves. All blacks in D.C. should oppose gun restrictions, including concealed-carry, even if their neighborhoods are “safe.”
