Christians, Immoral Laws, and Persecution

As abortion is the “law of the land,” and homosexual “marriage” is close to becoming so, Christians will be persecuted for failing to comply.

While American Christians don’t yet face death for the faith, we do face what amounts to government re-education camps, fines, bankruptcy, and jail for refusing to prostrate ourselves before the purveyors of perversity and death.

Live Action News reports on a pastor who said he’d rather be locked up than to provide employees with child-killing “health care” coverage. An excerpt:

[Pastor Jack] Hibbs said he, in concert with pastors named in the legal challenge, will do whatever it takes to send this message to the state of California:

“We will take this to the point of being jailed, if necessary, being arrested, if necessary – whatever it takes. I cannot violate my biblical worldview,” Hibbs said. “Once I have to do that, I no longer live in the United States our founding fathers gave me.”

“This abortion issue for a Christian is not a political issue – it’s a biblical issue,” Hibbs added. “God is the engineer of life – he’s the giver of life. I cannot think of a human being more defenseless than an unborn baby.”

You might recall that California requires all employers–including churches–and insurance companies to cover abortions. There are no religious exemptions. Pastor Hibbs heads one of the churches suing the state. Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) represents the churches. An ADF lawyer said the mandate violates a 2004 federal law that protects religious organizations from paying for abortions in health care coverage.

Our sovereign God rules over all. He appoints leaders, and we are commanded to obey the law. “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities,” the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans. “For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good.”

But this command isn’t absolute. We’re not obligated to obey a law that causes us to sin. Abortion is immoral, no matter which law permits it. We’re not to kill our own children, and we’re not to facilitate other people doing it.

Laws forcing Christians to fund abortions are immoral. Laws that require Christian business owners to service homosexual “weddings” are immoral. Abortion is killing the unborn baby for no reason other than convenience. Rare is the baby who has to die in 2014 to save the mother. Those who do it should be in terror of the government. Instead, our government has basically declared killing unborn babies good and efforts to stop it as “evil.”
