Palestinians Violent Against Marchers on 'Jerusalem Day'

WailingWallPalestinians threw stones, bottles and trash at IDF border police guarding the entrance to old city Jerusalem as thousands of Jews [marked] “Jerusalem Day” — a march through Jerusalem to the Kotel (Wailing Wall) marking 48 years of unity in the city following the 1967 war.

Police forces were heavy ahead of the march, each year riots and violence increasing, from Palestinians in protest to Jews marching through the nation’s capitol — this year just a few days after Palestinians marked “Nakba Day,” in English known as “Day of the Catastrophe,” days in which the Palestinians and Arab Israelis mourn, protest, and demonstrate on the day of Israel’s Independence: May 14, 1948.

Palestinian protesters came with signs of “Free Palestine,” and as most years’ opposition to the march through Jerusalem was met with violence from the Palestinians, one officer reported injured as well as several citizens, mainly from stone attacks.

Damascus Gate was reinforced with border police following several incidents of violence from Arabs.

The march and ceremonies [continued] through Sunday evening with heightened security from both the IDF and Israeli police forces.
