Prime Minister Netanyahu responded Monday evening to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s call to resume peace talks.
On Thursday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas gave a rare interview on for Israeli television in which he stated he views Prime Minister Netanyahu as a “the partner for peace” and is ready to meet with the Prime Minister and renew peace talks. He also spoke of efforts by the Palestinian Authority to deter terror attacks and violence perpetuated by Palestinian youth and called for an end to violence.
Following a visit with Czech’s Foreign Minister Lubomír Zaorálek, Netanyahu responded to Abbas’s request during a press conference, stating that “President Abbas said on Israeli television a few days ago that if I invite him, he’ll come. I’m inviting him. I’ve cleared my schedule for the week. Any day he can come, I’ll be here… Now we have a lot of things to discuss. The first order of business will be ending the Palestinian campaign of incitement to murder Israelis. My door is always open for those who want peace with Israel.”
Prior to the Prime Minister’s comments, Israeli President Rueven Rivlin also stated: “We need to find a way to build trust between us. I am ready to meet with [Abbas] with whatever coordination with the Israeli government of course.”
