One of the Suspects Who Executed Dallas Cops Identified

Law enforcement have identified a suspect in the Dallas police shootings as Micah Xavier Johnson, a 25-year-old veteran.

He and other shooters murdered five members of law enforcement and injured 12 others Thursday night. Johnson said he wanted to kill white people, especially police officers. The murderer himself was killed in a police bomb explosion.

Johnson was a resident of the Dallas area who had no ties to terror groups or a criminal history. An unnamed law enforcement official told the Los Angeles Times Johnson had relatives in Mesquite, Texas.

Five police officers were killed late Thursday by shooters during a peaceful protest over the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile earlier this week. Dallas Police Chief David Brown said negotiations with one suspect, later identified as Johnson by a law enforcement official, broke down early Friday. After gunfire broke out, a bomb robot was used to kill Johnson.

“He wanted to kill officers. And he expressed killing white people, killing white officers, he expressed anger for Black Lives Matter,” Brown said during a press conference.

After the police tried and failed to negotiate with Johnson, who was surrounded in a parking garage, they sent in a bomb robot to take him out.

President Barack Obama seized the opportunity to bring up gun control.

“We also know that when people are armed with powerful weapons, unfortunately, it makes attacks like these more deadly and more tragic,” he said. “In the days ahead, we’re going to have to consider those realities as well.”
