President Trump Just Fulfilled Another Campaign Promise

Conservatives are comparing President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick, Judge Neil Gorsuch, to the late Justice Antonin Scalia, whose death left the high court in a 4-4 split along party lines.

Presently sitting on the Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, Judge Gorsuch favors protecting religious liberty.

At 49, Judge Gorsuch is the youngest Supreme Court nominee since Justice Clarence Thomas was nominated at 43. He’s called a champion of small government. This makes him an enemy of liberals.

But some of the same liberal lawmakers who now oppose Judge Gorsuch voted for his confirmation to the 10th Circuit.

“The president made an outstanding decision in his nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement. “He has an impressive background and a long record of faithfully applying the law and the Constitution. Judge Gorsuch understands the invaluable contribution to the federal judiciary and our democratic government made by the justice he is succeeding. Like Justice Scalia, he understands the constitutional limits on the authority of a federal judge and that the duty of a judge is to apply the law even-handedly, without fear or favor, and not to rule based on one’s empathy with a party in a case.”

Good news for pro-lifers: Planned Parenthood opposes Judge Gorsuch.

The question now is how long the Democratic will stall a yea or nay vote on President Trump’s nominee, and will it hurt them in the 2018 midterm elections?
