One of the issues President Donald Trump talked about during Tuesday night’s State of the Union address was repealing and replacing Obamacare. He campaigned on scrapping Barack Obama’s signature law, a promise his voters are expecting to happen soon.
“Mandating every American to buy government-approved health insurance was never the right solution for America,” he said. “Obamacare premiums nationwide have increased by double and triple digits. As an example, Arizona went up 116 percent last year alone. Governor Matt Bevin of Kentucky just said Obamacare is failing in his State — it is unsustainable and collapsing.”
President Trump also referenced Obama’s “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” claim.
“We now know that all of those promises have been broken.” He called on lawmakers to work with him to “save Americans from this imploding Obamacare disaster.”
President Trump laid out a plan for replacing Obamacare, a plan that would make sure Americans with pre-existing conditions can get insurance. He also proposed to expand Health Savings Accounts and allow consumers to buy insurance across state lines.
Politico reported on a leaked repeal bill that would, among other things, scrap Obamacare’s government subsidies.
Why hasn’t Congress sent President Trump the same or a similar Obamacare repeal bill? In any case, a repeal bill would block funding to the abortion mill Planned Parenthood. The bill would also target insurance companies receiving taxpayers’ money that cover abortions, and presumably block the funding.
