Is This Why Trump Delayed Signing a Revised Temporary Ban on Muslim Immigration?

President Donald Trump spoke about Islamic terrorism in Tuesday night’s State of the Union Address.

“We have seen the attacks in France, in Belgium, in Germany, and all over the world. It is not compassion, but reckless, to allow uncontrolled entry from places where proper vetting cannot occur.”

The president also has a message for foreigners allowed to enter the country. He said that the people given the “high honor” of being admitted to the United States should “support this country and love its people and its values,” which includes supporting the enforcement of our immigration laws. We can’t allow a “beachhead of terrorists to form” inside our country, and we can’t allow the country to become a sanctuary for extremists.

After a court blocked the president’s executive order to temporarily suspend travel from several Middle Eastern and African countries, many expected him to issue a new executive order. But the Hill and other sources reported that he delayed signing a new order because of his “well-received” speech.

A White House official did not explicitly tell CNN that the favorable coverage spurred Trump to delay the signing, but did not deny that it played a role in the matter.

“We want the [executive order] to have its own ‘moment,’ ” CNN quoted the official as saying.

The decision to delay the order reportedly came Tuesday night after the president returned to the White House from Capitol Hill.
