Gun Grabbers Won’t Like What These Lawmakers Want to Do in the Wake of the Northern Virginia Shooting

Lawmakers have called for looser gun rights after a man who hated President Donald Trump attempted to murder Rep. Steve Scalise and others on a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia.

Because of the wisdom of the founders, Americans have the right to keep and bear arms to defend themselves against the tyranny of their government and the destructive impulses of individuals, especially in the age of global Islamic terrorism.

The Second Amendment was enshrined in the U.S. Constitution for such moments.

Criminals and others who seek to harm will obtain the tools to do so. Restricting gun rights makes the law-abiding more vulnerable, not the criminals.

That’s why Rep. Barry Loudermilk called for concealed-carry permits for members of Congress. If they can carry concealed in their home states, they should be allowed to carry in the nation’s capital, especially considering the violent-leftist climate.

“There are several things to look at,” Rep. Loudermilk said. “First of all, if this had happened in Georgia, he wouldn’t have gotten too far. I had a staff member who was in his car, maybe 20 yards behind the shooter… who back in Georgia carries a nine millimeter in his car. I carry a weapon. He had a clear shot at him. But here, we’re not allowed to carry any weapons here… Most of us are here in D.C., so how are you supposed to have it here?”

The New York Times reported Rep. Tom Garrett’s comments.

“Had there not been a member of House leadership present, there would have been no police present, and it would have become the largest act of political terrorism in years, if not ever.”

Sen. Rand Paul said the location of the heinous shootings “essentially a killing field. You had no way to defend yourself.”

Gun rights supporters want to conceal-carry across states. “Constitutional carry” advocates believe the Second Amendment is the only firearm possession/carry permit we need.

With no appetite in Congress or the White House for restrictions on gun access, Democrats have become all but resigned to inaction. And with one of their colleagues in critical condition, many were muted on Wednesday.

“The problem is that nobody looks for a middle ground,” said Representative Steve Cohen, Democrat of Tennessee.

Mr. Cohen said part of the difficulty was that many Republicans in right-leaning districts are more afraid of conservative primary challengers than of Democrats in general elections. And few interest groups have as much clout among Republican primary voters as the N.R.A.

“They have an N.R.A. rating they want to keep,” he said.

Stymied in Washington, gun control activists have taken their fight to state capitals, city halls and corporate boardrooms.

Liberals support the “law of the land” right of women to kill their own unborn children, which isn’t stated or implied in the Constitution, but want to look for a “middle ground” to the constitutional right to protect the living with a gun.

  1. The last paragraph says it all!

  2. What body determines who can have a gun, and who can’t? Which cities need more guns? Which neighborhoods? Which people?

  3. Don’t know about anyone else posting or writing here, but I cherish equally my rights to free speech, free exercise of my faith and to keep and bear arms. I will not willingly surrender any of them.
