Author of Planned Parenthood Exposé Beats Pro-Abortion Liberal in Georgia Race

Karen Handel, former Georgia secretary of state, ran for governor in 2010. She lost the Republican run-off election to Governor Nathan Deal.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a breast cancer organization, hired Handel to serve as Senior Vice President of Public Policy.

What Handel experienced working for Komen led her to write Planned Bullyhood: The Truth Behind the Headlines about the Planned Parenthood Funding Battle with Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Komen had changed its grant award model because of recession funding shortages. After Komen decided to focus on breast cancer and not abortion, the organization cut off Planned Parenthood grants but allowed funding to remain until the contract ended.

A “war on women” backlash from abortion advocates ensued, and Handel, a pro-life Roman Catholic, resigned her position.

Handel wrote in her book that Komen caved to the abortion mill. From an article I wrote for WORLD:

Handel goes into detail and thoroughly documents her side of the story. The conflicts of interest among Komen and Planned Parenthood consultants, employees, and the Democratic party will make your head spin. As Handel notes, most associate Planned Parenthood with clinics, but it’s now a “complex labyrinth” of lobbying groups, PACS, and 527s. They work to put Democrats in office. Almost half its funding comes from the government, which means conservative, pro-life taxpayers fund abortions and Planned Parenthood’s leftist political agenda. Through Obamacare, the abortion mill will seize even more tax dollars.

Well, that same woman beat Democrat Jon Ossoff in Tuesday’s special election for a vacant U.S. House of Representatives seat.

The pro-life Susan B. Anthony List said this about Handel’s win:

“We congratulate pro-life champion Karen Handel on her historic victory tonight. Although America’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, spent six figures in support of her opponent Jon Ossoff, Karen’s record of courageous leadership won the day. We are encouraged that the voters rejected Ossoff’s extreme pro-abortion agenda and are sending Karen Handel to Washington to stand up for women and children and get taxpayers out of the abortion business.”
