The U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote on the School Safety Act, which would provide federal funds for more security in government schools.
Senator Tim Scott expressed support for “bipartisan” legislation that includes the measure but also for stronger background checks for gun purchases. The latter might sound too much like gun control to gun-rights supporters.
The senator also talked about the lower unemployment rate among black Americans.
