Remember the old Aid to Families with Dependent Children program? Also known as AFDC, this program devastated black families. Republicans demanded welfare reform, and President Bill Clinton signed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act into law in 1996. This law created the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
In this episode of Star Parker’s Power, Poverty, & Politics podcast, she said the so-called Build Back Better bill “is practically a rebirth” of AFDC, which penalized marriage and work.
Rep. Cori Bush, a far-left leftist in Congress, attacked Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin for opposing the Build Back Better bill, calling him anti-black, anti-child, anti-woman, and anti-immigrant. But Star said Bush needs to look in the mirror if she wants to know who’s hurting these groups. Star talked about problems in Bush’s own district in Missouri.
Star asked why anyone would want to do this to their constituents and return them to government dependency. How will this free them from a cycle of poverty? Star breaks down what the bill would do.
