Pro-Life OB/GYN Group: Elective Abortion Is NOT Lifesaving Medical Care

A pro-life OB/GYN group wants to set the record straight on alarmist misinformation from abortion advocates after the U.S. Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

The Supreme Court ruled by a vote of 6-3 in June that the U.S. Constitution does not confer a right of privacy to kill unborn babies in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturning the 49-year-old “law of the land” abortion case.

The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ mission is to “encourage and equip its members and other concerned medical practitioners to provide an evidence-based rationale for defending the lives of both the pregnant mother and her pre-born child.” From the Washington Examiner:

The 7,000-member American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, or AAPLOG, told Secrets that it is launching a campaign “to correct the record” in liberal media warning of a medical disaster in the wake of the court’s overturning of the 1973 Roe v. Wade case.

A fact sheet also provided to Secrets showed some false media claims that have poured out since the Dobbs decision was made two months ago.

In point, counterpoint fashion, the group addressed media disinformation. For example, the group cited an NPR claim that “some abortions are necessary to save the life of a patient.” However, the OB/GYNs said, “elective abortion is not lifesaving medical care. OB/GYNs will still be able to offer lifesaving medical care to pregnant women. No laws on elective abortion will impact that.”

AALOG also debunked the myth that maternal deaths would increase post-Roe.

“The data clearly shows that restricting abortion does not lead to an increase in maternal mortality.”
