Star Parker Joins Conservative Leaders on FOIA Request to DOJ About Attacks Against Pro-Life Organizations

Star Parker joined other conservative leaders to ask the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for access to records pertaining to internal and external communications about attacks against pro-life organizations before and after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

In a letter (PDF) sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland, the signers said they are following up on a letter sent in June.

“Because the DOJ has repeatedly failed to respond, we are now filing a FOIA request with the DOJ to obtain more information via our legal avenues for recourse. Even months prior to the June 16, 2022 letter, CatholicVote, an undersigned organization, had already asked the DOJ how it was investigating these attacks in a letter dated December 15, 2021. In that letter, CatholicVote asked you to take appropriate actions, not least in pursuit of whomever damages religious property or obstructs our
fellow citizens in the free exercise of religious beliefs (18 USC § 247). We are now approaching nearly a year since that initial request was made, and yet there has been nothing but silence from the DOJ and this Administration.”

The group said it has “serious concerns that the work of DOJ is being inappropriately politicized” and demands fair and equal treatment for these pro-life organizations.

According to CatholicVote.org, abortion advocates have attacked at least 73 pregnancy resource centers and pro-life group offices.

The attacks appear to be organized under the umbrella of two domestic terror groups — Jane’s Revenge and Ruth Sent Us — which have arisen since the Supreme Court opinion leak was published on May 2, 2022. Many of the attacks have similar messages, including ‘If abortions aren’t safe, neither are you.’

The group wants the DOJ to publicly condemn the attacks, “commit to vigorous efforts to prevent them, and to investigate and prosecute them; and to proactively engage with the affected faith communities to ensure their concerns and security needs are being met.”

Is that a tall order for a leftist, abortion-advocating administration? Not if our DOJ is committed to equal justice before the law.

The letter’s signers include Penny Nance, president and CEO of Concerned Women for America; Ryan T. Anderson, Ph.D., president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center; Jessica Anderson, executive director of Heritage Action for America; Dean Nelson, vice president of government relations for the Human Coalition; and Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
