Conservative Movement Leaders Urge the House Not to Replace Speaker Mike Johnson

Congressional Republicans are infighting about the budget and the border. One group wants border protection now, before lawmakers allocate any money for foreign wars. Others believe funding allies is crucial.

Some Republican lawmakers have called for a new majority speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. They submitted a motion to vacate Rep. Mike Johnson’s speakership.

A group of conservative movement leaders released a letter urging the House to oppose the motion to vacate.

Star Parker, founder and CEO of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, also signed the letter.

“Maintaining the Republican House majority is vital to any organization or individual focused on advancing conservative policy priorities and delivering wins on the Reagan-Trump agenda,” they wrote. “We are just one House seat away from united Democrat rule in Washington and an unchecked return to the disastrous policies of the Biden administration. This cannot be allowed to happen.”

The signers believe vacating the House speaker would distract and undermine progress on conservative issues.

Other signers include Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform; Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives; Phil Kerpin, president of American Commitment; Penny Nance, president and CEO of Concerned Women for America LAC; Ken Blackwell, chairman for the Council for National Policy Action; Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council; Heather Higgins, CEO of Independent Women’s Voice; Ginni Thomas, president of Liberty Consulting; Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America; and James L. Martin, founder and chairman of 60 Plus Association.

  1. The Speaker of the House doesn’t have to be a member of Congress? I’ve heard that and if true, they should somehow get Newt Gingrich back on the Job.
