Concerned Parents Sued This California School District for Refusing to Allow Them to Opt Kids Out of ‘Gender Identity’ Instruction

Teachers and bureaucrats don’t seem to have much respect for parents of students in government schools.

The government wants the authority to indoctrinate children in ways that violate the parents’ and the children’s religious beliefs and the parents’ right to make decisions about their children’s education and upbringing.

The Encinitas Union School District in California is one of those government entities. Schools refuse to notify parents of “gender identity” instruction or allow parents to opt their kids out of it.

First Liberty Institute and The National Center for Law & Policy represent a group of parents with children in the La Costa Heights Elementary School. They requested opt-outs for a read-aloud video of a book that depicts a boy who wears a dress to school and accepts his new “gender identity,” for example. Parents attempted to out their children out of this indoctrination session — and asked for notice in the future — but the school said NO.

First Liberty and The National Center for Law & Policy filed a lawsuit in federal court on the parents’ behalf seeking a preliminary injunction.

“While the School District offers opt-outs from other types of instruction and curriculum for a wide variety of reasons,” the plaintiffs said in the complaint (PDF), “it refuses opt-outs from gender identity instruction outside of the formal health unit context.”

Why are government schools fixated on discussing deviant sexual behavior with young children? These bureaucrats know that religious parents oppose ideologies that conflict with their religious beliefs, which is their natural right as well as their constitutional right.

According to the plaintiffs, the school district seeks to “address ‘transphobia’ and correct ‘misinformation and negative stereotypes’ young children are presumably learning from their parents at home.”

People can believe whatever they want about homosexuality and “transgenderism” and teach their children that both are wrong and abnormal. No government entity has the authority to tell minors that their parents are bigots and homophobes because they don’t agree with the government’s agenda.

“No child should be forced to speak a message that violates his religious convictions,” said Kayla Toney, associate counsel for First Liberty. “It is unconscionable that teachers would force Christian elementary students to teach five-year-olds about gender identity in a way that violates their faith.”
