This California School District Ignored Requests for DEI and ‘Transitioning’ Public Records — And Got Sued

Parents have the right to know what government schools are teaching their children, and we, the taxpayers, have the right to obtain records of what our government is up to.

The Lynwood United School District in California has been accused of violating the state’s Public Records Act. The Center for American Liberty said that the school district has violated the requirement under the law to release requested public records.

The legal organization submitted a records request on July 23, 2024. An excerpt:

Specifically, the Center for American Liberty requested policies and procedures, forms, staff training materials, ledgers and receipts, and certain communications regarding the implementation of D.E.I. and socially transitioning children.

The school district didn’t respond to the first or second request for public records or even knowledge receiving the requests. The Center for American Liberty filed a lawsuit on September 30.

Mark Trammell with the Center for American Liberty said they’ve sued other California school districts. He asked: what are these schools hiding?

“Parents have a right to understand what’s going on in their kids’ schools, and Lynwood is not above the law,” Trammell said. “We’re going to hold them accountable.”
