The Government is Going After ANOTHER Christian Baker for Declining to Make ‘Wedding’ Cakes

Another Christian business owner who uses her artistic talents to design custom cakes is fighting for her right to refuse to endorse a message she opposes.

Becket Law represents Cathy Miller, a baker in California who faces government retaliation for refusing to make a custom cake for a homosexual “wedding,” which is her right. But California seems to think otherwise. The state retaliated after she explained to homosexual customers ordering custom “wedding” cakes that making such cakes would conflict with her faith.

Becket Law said the state’s Department of Fair Housing and Employment opened an investigation and compared Miller’s beliefs to racism called them harmful to all Californians.

Christians warned the country about what would happened if the U.S. Supreme Court declared that two people of the same sex could call themselves married. For example, Christians involved in the wedding industry, from pastors who officiate at weddings to small business owners who create wedding websites, would be targets. The prediction has come to pass.

Christians knew that this court-created “right” would erode our own First Amendment rights. Marriage is not a right under the U.S. Constitution, but religious worship and the free exercise of religion are enumerated fundamental rights that must be protected. The Bible condemns homosexuality as an abomination to God and teaches that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, and every Christian has right to live out these beliefs in their daily lives.

Becket Law, LiMandri & Jonna LLP, and the Thomas More Society represent Miller. A lower court ruled that she had acted within her rights, but the state appealed. The court will hear arguments in the appeals court on December 17 at 1PM EST.

The most high-profile case of a Christian business owner who fought for his rights is Jack Phillips, a baker in Colorado. He declined to use his artistic talents to make a custom cake for a homosexual “wedding.” Phillips was hounded into court by the state and prevailed at the nation’s highest court. The court ruled 7-2 that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission violated the Free Exercise Clause and treated Phillips’s religious views with contempt.
