Star Parker said on Straight Arrow News that President-elect Donald Trump is making some “amazing” nominations for his cabinet. His selection for secretary of the Department of Labor must believe in the free market.
But is Trump’s choice, Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, the right choice?
Senate Republicans in 2023 opposed Joe Biden’s choice of labor secretary, Julie Su, because as the leftist labor of secretary of California, she developed and implemented California’s AB5 legislation, which effectively banned many independent contractor arrangements and undermined the gig economy.
Twenty-six states have passed right-to-work laws to ensure that workers aren’t forced to pay dues. The proposed federal Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act) would nullify state laws like this and give union officials many new powers.
Republicans typically oppose pro-union laws. Star said she was surprised that Trump nominated Rep. Chavez-DeRemer. The National Right to Work Committee has written to Trump warning him about the negative ramifications of nominating her.
Rep. Chavez-DeRemer co-sponsored pro-union legislation.
“Ironically, these government unions are gearing up to resist President Trump’s attempt to reform this federal bureaucracy,” Star said.
Let’s hope the incoming president heeds Star’s warning. Watch the full segment below or at Straight Arrow News.
