Rep. Alcee Hastings, a serving member of the U.S. Congress, joked about the death of President Donald Trump at a political rally.
And the audience laughed.
I don’t recall a conservative lawmaker publicly joking about Obama dying or being assassinated.
The U.S. House of Representatives impeached Rep. Hastings in 1988 for bribery and perjury when he was a federal judge. The U.S. Senate convicted him, and he was removed from office.
The Florida Democrat told a “joke” about the president drowning, and the Sun Sentinel in Florida published a headline that asked whether his remarks were harmless or a vile insult.
Can you imagine what the media would have said if a Republican lawmaker said the same about Obama? Do you think they would have posed a discussion question like that?
Watch the brief clip to find out exactly what Rep. Hastings said and to hear what the Conservative Review’s Deneen Borelli has to say about the Trump assassination “jokes.”
Why aren’t the media reporting on the people who make jokes about violence against the president? @deneenborelli wants to know.
It’s not funny and it shouldn’t be ignored! https://t.co/ATooHMXRTx pic.twitter.com/607vMTXY11
