A Republic, If We Can Keep It

Our Republic is a representative form of government ruled by the U.S. Constitution, Star Parker said on Straight Arrow News.

“While actions are ultimately decided by a majority of representatives, our system has mechanisms that protect the rights of all, including the minority.”

We have three branches of government — legislative, executive, and judicial — which operate under a system of checks and balances.

“We really need to remind ourselves that this system naturally produces tension, but it has endured,” Star added.

Next year, our great country will celebrate its 250th birthday. Our legislative process has been compared to a sausage factory. (And do you really want to know how the sausage is made?)

But Congress gets the job done. Right now we need to pass a budget resolution, and things are getting sloppy. Watch Star’s segment below to find out what we need to do.
