The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee unanimously approved the nomination of Dr. Ben Carson as secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Dr. Carson said at last week’s hearing that giving hope to people stuck in poverty includes improving their living conditions.
The same day the committee voted in Dr. Carson’s favor, the Senate Commerce Committee approved Wilbur Ross as secretary of the Commerce Department and Elaine Chao as secretary of the Department of Transportation.
President Donald Trump’s decision to nominate the former neurosurgeon and his primary rival to lead HUD met with criticism and praise.
The nominations of Dr. Carson, Ross, and Chao move to the full Senate for a vote.
