Star Parker, founder and president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, was a consultant on The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, also known as the welfare reform bill.
Star appeared on Reason TV in 2011 to talk about the so-called “War on Poverty” and how government doesn’t belong in the charity business. A former welfare recipient, Star has insight into the destructive cycle of dependency. She believes the country needs more even more welfare reform. After 1996, welfare rolls were reduced by half, and people went to work.
