America First Legal (AFL), a law firm that has sued corporations and government agencies that discriminate against individuals on the basis of race, has also warned others about using racial preferences in hiring, promotions, and training.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled last June that Harvard University’s and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s racial preference admissions policies violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, effectively ending “affirmative action.”
AFL sent accounting firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) a cease-and-desist letter last July to stop racial discrimination in hiring and contracting and asked the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to open an investigation.
PwC has heeded somebody’s call — in part. The Financial Times reported that PwC has scrapped its race-based intern scholarship program and will allow white students to apply. An excerpt:
The Big Four accounting firm, which employs 46,000 people in the US, said it was applying “rigour” to its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to reflect the new legal backdrop.
