‘Sanctuary Cities’ Think They’re Defying Trump — Here’s The Bigger Issue

During his presidential campaign, President-elect Donald Trump vowed to crack down on illegal immigration. After he defeated Hillary Clinton on November 8 to become the 45th president of the United States, leftists in government vowed to protect people who crossed our border and remain in the country in violation of U.S. law.

One such leftist is Rahm Emanuel, mayor of the violent city, Chicago.

Sheriff David Clarke, Col. Allen West, and Judge Jeanine Pirro recently appeared on Fox News to comment.

After the sheriff addressed rumors about whether he’ll end up working in the Trump administration, he said we’re at a crossroads.

“Either we’re going to be a sovereign nation and enforce our borders, or we’re not. The problem is getting worse. We have to have zero tolerance for people illegally crossing the border coming into the country and setting up residence.”

Sheriff Clarke said so-called sanctuary cities won’t comply and cited the U.S. Code that contains criminal sanctions for people who provide safe havens for and harbor illegal aliens. Immigration reform is a separate issue. We have to enforce laws on the books.

Col. Allen West said cities that violate federal law aren’t defying the Trump administration but the constitutional republic itself. The federal government can cut off funding to these cities.

“When you talk about politic optics, this isn’t a winning argument for the Democrat party whatsoever,” Col. West said.

Sheriff Clarke said that sanctuary cities [like Chicago] are also havens for criminal activity against illegal aliens. Criminals prey on them, knowing they won’t report incidents to the police. Crimes go under- and unreported.
