This School District Socially ‘Transitioned’ Girl Behind Her Mother’s Back

A mother in New York found out her daughter’s middle school failed to notify her that the child was dealing with a mental health issue — pretending to be a boy. Teachers were referring to the girl with male pronouns and a different name.

Jennifer Vitsaxaki withdrew her daughter from the Skaneateles Central School District and put her in a private school. She filed a lawsuit, alleging that the school district violated her rights as a parent and her religious beliefs. A lower court dismissed her case.

Vitsaxaki appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), her legal counsel, submitted the opening brief to the appeals court on Friday.

In the brief, ADF included examples of what the middle school did to her daughter. An excerpt:

…Ms. Rogala [school psychologist] started an LGBTQ club at lunch and encouraged Jane and others to attend. Id. There, Ms. Rogala encouraged Jane to socially transition, told her that changing biological sex was a choice, and gave her resources on medical transitions…Those resources included a document with lists of contact information for nearby hormone clinics and surgeons…(list of “Cross Hormone Providers” and “Surgeons” given to Jane). That same document contained information about where to obtain breast binders…(list of organizations that provide “Binders”). It even included a list of “Faith Communities” for Jane to consider.

“Parents have the right to direct the upbringing, education, and health care of their children without government meddling,” said Kate Anderson, ADF legal counsel and director of ADF’s Center for Parental Rights. “Under the district’s policy, school staff concealed important information from Jennifer about her daughter.”
