True Pursuit

I’ve heard it said that a man’s pursuit of a woman never ends. Even after he has courted her, wooed her and married her, the pursuit is never over. A man in love should never lay his head down to rest without knowing for sure that he has conquered the heart of his woman yet again.

The beauty of this kind of relationship is two-fold. Not only does the man get the opportunity to court his love on a daily basis, but they both are afforded the opportunity to fall in love all over again. Each day is exciting to them because it is a new opportunity to express their love for each other, and there are many more opportunities to discover each other yet again. What a beautiful experience; to fall in love again and again each day.

This type of relationship is ideal, as it mirrors the kind of relationship God desires us to have with Him. His pursuit for us did not end when Jesus breathed His final breath on Calvary. His pursuit of us did not end the day we asked Him into our heart and committed to living for Him. His pursuit for us will never end. Everyday there are so many things and people vying for the spot in our hearts that is reserved only for God. Everyday we are faced with opportunities to keep God in that spot, or allow our spouse, our job, our children, or our greatest desires to take His spot.

So God continues to pursue us. He loves us and values us that much.

How wonderful it is to know that every day when we open our eyes, God blesses us with a gift. Life.

How wonderful it is to know that every day we have a brand new opportunity to fall in love with GOD.

How amazing it is to know that the Creator of the very universe loves us enough to spend every minute of everyday fighting for our heart.

That is the greatest love story ever told.

Yet the beauty of this love story is that it never ends. Imagine if Cinderella woke up every day to find her Prince Charming riding up to her on a white steed ready to take her on the adventure of a lifetime. Imagine if Sleeping Beauty was awakened every day by the gentle kiss of her prince, and every morning it felt as though he was kissing her to life for the first time.

We get to experience that every day with God. Every morning when we wake up we should embrace the day as though God Himself sanctioned it just for us…because He did. Every time we pray and talk to God we should be as excited and filled with butterflies as if it is the first time we are talking to the love of our life. Every time we worship and come into His presence we should be overwhelmed as though we have never been there before.

Allow God to pursue you today and every day. Allow yourself to fall in love with Him over and over and over again. Allow yourself to be swept off your feet and to play the starring role in the greatest love story ever told.
