Trump Blocks Planned Parenthood from Receiving Federal Family Planning Funds

President Donald Trump has blocked abortion giant Planned Parenthood from receiving federal family planning funds. The Wall Street Journal reported that the abortion mill will be starved of close to $20 million, which affects facilities in close to 12 states. An excerpt:

“This is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss,” Rep. Chris Smith (R., N.J.), said at a Capitol Hill event last week calling to defund Planned Parenthood.

Any loss of funding would further exacerbate the organization’s financial challenges.

WSJ also reported that Planned Parenthood facilities across the country have been shutting down. The U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe. v. Wade took the wind out of the abortion mill’s destructive sales. Abortion advocates apparently aren’t donating as much money as they used to, and fewer women are going to Planned Parenthood. So much for the “other services” the abortion mill claims to provide. From WSJ:

Nationally, Planned Parenthood operated at a loss in 2023—the most recently available data—running nearly $68 million behind its expenses as contributions dropped 15% from a decade high of more than $428 million in 2022. The national office has laid off dozens of staff members over the last couple of years, in part to send $70 million in additional funding to its local affiliates, many of which have also struggled financially.

The Supreme Court heard arguments on Wednesday in a case involving Planned Parenthood and South Carolina. Governor Henry McMaster signed an executive order in 2018 blocking state Medicaid funds to facilities that kill unborn babies. A Medicaid recipient named Julie Edwards — who claims she has a right to choose Planned Parenthood as a provider — and Planned Parenthood of South Atlantic sued the state over blocked funds.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled in Planned Parenthood’s favor. The Supreme Court will decide whether the Medicaid Act’s free-choice-of-provider provision gives beneficiaries a private right to choose their provider.
