The fight against “Big Government” has been long and arduous, especially against those promoting “progressive” ideology, aka, Communism. The bad guys are finally on their heels.
Thankfully, the Trump administration, faithful to its campaign promises, has set in motion a strategy to rein in bloated, exploitative bureaucracies and limit the federal government to the restraints delineated in the Constitution.
The fight to bring “common sense” to government has especially encouraged the pro-life community. Trump’s nominee for the Director of the National Institute of Health pledges to “prohibit” use of aborted babies’ tissue. Jay Bhattacharya told lawmakers at his Senate confirmation committee hearing on March 6 that NIH funds will not be used for barbaric “fetal tissue research.”
Another Trump-delivered victory for the pro-life battle is the defunding of the United Nations Population Fund, which promotes child-killing and population control. Nearly all of its 48 grants worth $377 million will be discontinued. This UN group is responsible for promoting child-killing across the globe for “population control.” Thumbs up for President Trump.
At the state level, two more victories encourage the battle-weary pro-life warriors. Governor Mark Gordon of Wyoming signed into law two bills that will restrict facilities that perform abortions.
The first bill requires abortion facilities to receive licensing as ambulatory surgical centers; the other requires women to receive an ultrasound procedure 48 hours before taking drugs to kill their children.
Yet another cause for encouragement is in the state of West Virginia. House Bill 2712 seeks to remove rape and incest exception for abortion.
“Removing the rape and incest exception in West Virginia’s abortion law is a moral decision rooted in justice, mercy, and compassion for the most vulnerable among us,” said Delegate Elias Coop-Gonzalez, one of the sponsors of the bill. “Every life, no matter how they were conceived, has inherent dignity and value.”
Although these victories are an encouragement to those who struggle to end the murder of children in America, the fight rages on. Pro-life victories are few and far between. And worse, these victories do little actually to end the slaughter in our nation. There are only 19 states that prohibit or limit child-killing by abortion. The last election cycle had amendments in 10 states on the ballot to legalize abortions in their states. Seven of them passed an amendment, codifying the murder of babies.
Unfortunately, at the Republican Convention last year, the pro-life platform was so brutally altered that it is unrecognizable to those who helped craft it since the late Phyllis Schlafly. This radical adjustment caused many to hesitate about participating in the GOP, which is understandable.
It’s good to see a few victories, but there is plenty of reason for the pro-life community to be concerned. We must resist the temptation to feel that our victories are significant. The fight to end child-killing must be intensified. Our rhetoric, images, and agenda must be equal to the horror we are fighting: the brutal murder of innocent human beings, made in the image of God.
