A Christian and Her Unborn Child

pregnant-sentenced-to-death (1)Throughout the history of the faith, believers have chosen death over denying Christ. Until Christ returns, many more will die for believing in Him. According to Revelation 6:9-11, the martyred cry out and ask, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”

When Christ returns, He’ll deliver the Father’s wrath on the unrepentant and avenge those who died in His name. Knowing this gives us a certain amount of comfort, but we can only imagine what it’s like to be faced with death.

Meriam Ibrahim, a Sudanese mother of a toddler and eight months pregnant, was sentenced to death last week for refusing to deny Christ. Her husband, U.S. citizen Daniel Wani, said she’s in prison with shackles on her legs. Her young son, who officials consider a Muslim, is in prison with her. She’s also charged with adultery because her husband is a Christian. The court will allow her to give birth. From Fox News:

“[Her husband] originally was not allowed to see her until this week,” Tina Ramirez, executive director of Hardwired, a U.S.-based advocacy group against religious persecution, told FoxNews.com. “Once he was able to, she was shackled and her legs were swollen.”

Ramirez added that Ibrahim’s attorney is working on an appeal as international outrage over her persecution grows.

In addition, a statement from several attorneys associated with the Sudanese high court was released Monday, calling for an appeal of Ibrahim’s death sentence.

“The [Sudanese] government is afraid of the international attention,” Ramirez said. “They are paying attention and this [statement] is a sign of that.”

Charged with apostasy against Islam, Ibrahim said she was never a Muslim. Her father, who left the family when she was young, was a Muslim. “I was raised a Christian from the start,” Ibrahim said.

But that doesn’t matter to those determined to see her dead. They want to make an example of her. U.S. lawmakers urge Secretary of State John Kerry to intervene.
