Obama: Illegal Immigration 'Threatens to Further Depress' Blue-Collar Wages

illegalaliensprotestNo, you didn’t read the headline wrong. Did you know President Barack Obama, who’s determined to forego checks-and-balances and push through amnesty for illegal aliens, once understood how illegal immigration harms blue-collar and lower-skilled workers?

Among these workers are black Americans who voted for Barack Obama in the hopes that he’d “help” them. In his autobiography, The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream (2006),” he wrote:

“The number of immigrants added to the labor force every year is of a magnitude not seen in this country for over a century. If this huge influx of mostly low-skill workers provides some benefits to the economy as a whole—especially by keeping our workforce young, in contrast to an increasingly geriatric Europe and Japan—it also threatens to depress further the wages of blue-collar Americans and put strains on an already overburdened safety net.

“Native-born Americans suspect that it is they, and not the immigrant, who are being forced to adapt…And if I’m honest with myself, I must admit that I’m not entirely immune to such nativist sentiments. When I see Mexican flags waved at pro-immigration demonstrations, I sometimes feel a flush of patriotic resentment. When I’m forced to use a translator to communicate with the guy fixing my car, I feel a certain frustration.”

Of course, people who read The Audacity of Hope (which I haven’t) already knew his views. So what changed between his days as a U.S. Senator to his present position as president of the United States? His pre-White House views on illegal immigration are based on facts, and those facts haven’t changed. Is it that he no longer believes it, or he believes it but no longer cares?

The Daily Caller also reports that the president’s amnesty scheme includes allowing businesses to hire up to half a million foreign professionals who’ll compete with college graduates. What can we the people do to stop this? Can we put our trust in Republicans to stop it?

  1. Oh he cares. He cares about the destruction of the USA. His “transformation” involves the diminishing of this country’s economic, diplomatic, military and social power. The question now is what lengths he has the guts to go toward these goals in the face of the massive repudiation he just received from the people.
