You Won't Believe Why Democrats Are Blocking A Sex Trafficking Bill

trafficking_smallerIs it possible that Democrats care more about sacred abortion than helping victims of sex trafficking?

One would think a bill called the Justice for Victims of Human Trafficking Act would receive overwhelming bipartisan support.

If the bill became law, criminals convicted of sexually exploiting children, sex slavery, and smuggling would face higher penalties, and the money would be used to help the victims.

But there is one stipulation liberals could not abide: None of the funds could be used to kill unborn babies. You can guess what happened next.

The Senate voted to end debate yesterday by a 55-43 vote. An excerpt from The Hill:

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said ahead of the vote that, unless the abortion provision is removed, the legislation will fail.

“Let’s be realistic, there’s been a sleight of hand here to get the abortion language in this bill,” he said. “That vote is going to fail. … Republicans have chosen to manufacture a political fight.”

But Republicans have denied they mislead Democrats. They say senators either failed to read the legislation, which passed unanimously out of the Judiciary Committee, or they are trying to pick a political fight.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has tried to pressure Democrats to vote for the legislation. He said Sunday that the ongoing fight could delay a vote on Loretta Lynch’s nomination to be the next attorney general. The vote was expected to take place this week.

It reads like something from the Onion — liberal blocking a bill to help exploited victims because the money can’t be used to kill babies.

Ironically, and to the frustration of pro-lifers, the bill allows abortion funding if the women were impregnated through rape. Most of them likely would be considered victims of rape, anyway, so why are Democrats choosing to die on this hill?

In any case, the Republicans don’t have the 60 votes they need to defeat the filibuster.
