Palestinians to Pursue War Crime Charges Against Israel

1200px-Netherlands_The_Hague_International_Criminal_CourtThe Palestinian Authority intends to submit its first file next week to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague pursuing war crimes against the State of Israel during Operation Protective Edge. The file will be submitted on June 25 to ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.

Bensouda opened a preliminary investigation to the Palestinian accusations in June 2014. The Palestinians joined the ICC on April 1.

Palestinian Foreign Ministry official Amma Hijazi stated on the submission that the file is “general” and “only statistical…it certainly draws a grim picture of what Israel is doing and why we think that there are reasonable grounds…for the prosecutor to start her investigations.”

The move comes after Israel released its government-sanctioned detailed report on Operation Protective Edge this week. The report will be presented to the United Nation’s Human Rights Council.

In other news on Thursday, the United Nations closed its last shelter for displaced Gazans in the Gaza Strip at the Bahrain School. According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, “Some 30 families left the shelter of the Bahrain school where up to 1,100 displaced people had been living.” According to (UNRWA), between $800-$1,000 were given to each family for accommodations in the coming months.
