San Diego County Board of Supervisors Just Voted to Join Trump Lawsuit Against California’s Illegal Alien-Protection Law

Earlier this week, San Diego County was on the verge of officially siding with the Trump administration in its lawsuit against California’s sanctuary law. Now the deed is done.

The San Diego Board of Supervisors voted to join the lawsuit against the state for refusing to cooperate with federal officials to enforce the country’s immigration laws.

The Republican-controlled board voted 3-1 to file an amicus brief in the case. Supervisor Dianne Jacob said she agrees with Attorney General Jeff Sessions that California’s sanctuary law is unconstitutional and undermines the public’s safety.

From the San Diego Times Union:

The three supervisors who voted to support the lawsuit said it was about public safety.

“We’re talking about people who are crossing the border illegally, coming into this county and committing a crime and them being let loose probably to commit another crime,” said Dianne Jacob, supervisor for the district that covers East County. “That creates a public-safety issue and creates a problem in our neighborhoods.”

She worried about terrorists crossing the border illegally, she said.

“This is a different day than it was 20, 30, 40 years ago,” Jacob said. “That’s why it was important for us to stand up, as controversial as it was.”

The second most populous county in the state has joined Orange County in rejecting the perception that it will cooperate with the state and harbor illegal aliens. The sheriff’s department in Orange County will post illegal aliens’ release dates, which should make it easier for ICE pick up the criminals.
