Trump Just Sent a Huge Warning to Foreigners Trying to Cross the Border Illegally and Claim Asylum

President Donald Trump used his executive power to issue a warning to foreigners who seek to illegally cross the border: if you try to enter this country outside designated entry points, you’ll be ineligible for asylum.

Although federal law allows illegal aliens on U.S. soil to petition for asylum, the president is within his executive authority to enact the new rule on national interest grounds.

Even if foreigners enter legally, however, asylum isn’t guaranteed.

The president’s intent is to block people in the so-called caravan from making bogus asylum claims. An excerpt from the U.S. Department of Justice press release (emphasis added):

The Acting Attorney General and the Secretary issued the following joint statement:

“Consistent with our immigration laws, the President has the broad authority to suspend or restrict the entry of aliens into the United States if he determines it to be in the national interest to do so. Today’s rule applies this important principle to aliens who violate such a suspension or restriction regarding the southern border imposed by the President by invoking an express authority provided by Congress to restrict eligibility for asylum. Our asylum system is overwhelmed with too many meritless asylum claims from aliens who place a tremendous burden on our resources, preventing us from being able to expeditiously grant asylum to those who truly deserve it. Today, we are using the authority granted to us by Congress to bar aliens who violate a Presidential suspension of entry or other restriction from asylum eligibility.”

Asylum is a discretionary form of relief granted by the Executive Branch on a discretionary basis to those fleeing persecution on the basis of their race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. The rule does not render such aliens ineligible for withholding of removal under the INA or protection from removal under the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

  1. The requests for asylum by these Central American citizens is a farce. The asylum seekers are coached by lawyers to repeat the buzz words required for consideration for asylum. They pass through countries that offer asylum but refuse intent on getting to the United States.
My opinion is that these people are looking for a free ride forever at the expense of the American taxpayer.
They take away resources meant to assist American Citizens in the realm of housing, food and other areas of public assistance from the Federal Government. They also take away resources from the area of public education adding a burden to the state/city governments for providing second language programs and the additional instructors for these programs.
They take jobs away from American Citizens by working for less than going wages. Many work “under the table” thereby avoiding the payment of social security and federal and state taxes.
Unlike immigrants and refugees coming to America through the legal immigration system, these illegals have no intention of becoming an American Citizen through assimilation.
The United States should charge the United Nations with finding new homelands for these asylum seekers.

    • I agree, it is a farce. It’s well known that a lot of these “asylum seekers” are arriving at the border with children who aren’t even theirs! The Trump admin has the right idea in requiring DNA tests to catch the fakers.

I’m sorry for the ones who are genuinely fleeing awful conditions in their own countries, and do plan to work hard here – but there’s a limit to how many people we can welcome.

Also worrying is the fact that in a lot of those countries, the law is seen as something to be evaded rather than obeyed – not the culture we want here.

Unfortunately, I suspect the UN would be no help at all in solving this problem.

  2. If we want to solve the problem of Illegal Immigration Congress must pass Mandatory E-Verify and heavily fine and jail Employers who hire Illegal Aliens. End Sanctuary Cities that allow criminal illegals to remain in the U.S ! End DACA which is illegal and mostly fraud. New Jersey a Sanctuary State release a DACA receipent from jail instead of detaining him he later killed 3 people. It’s time Americans stand up and tell Democrats no to protecting Illegal Aliens instead of Americans. Finally its time Americans stand up to the rule of law Illegal Aliens kids born in the U.S are not U.S Citizens the 14th Amendment excluded them and the writer of the amendement stated it did not include foreigners, aliens nor diplomats
