This Pro-Life Bill Just Became Law — Without the Democratic Governor’s Signature

The Kentucky legislature passed a bill earlier this month to require abortionists to provide medical treatment to babies born alive during botched abortions.

Governor Andy Beshear, an abortion-advocating Democrat, had 10 days to sign the bill and didn’t. He didn’t veto it, either, which means the bill is now law.

“Everybody on any side related to Senate Bill 9 agreed that it never happens. And so this being something that never happens and would likely be illegal under other statutes, we ultimately did not sign it but did not feel the need to veto it,” Beshear said.

But Gov. Beshear’s vote wouldn’t have changed anything. Had he vetoed the bill, the Republican legislature would have overridden it. WFPL.com reported that the governor vetoed six other bills this month. The born-alive bill was the only one he didn’t veto.

Though rare, babies have been born alive during botched abortions. For example, abortionist Kermit Gosnell is serving life in prison for murdering babies born alive during late-term abortion attempts.

Former President Donald Trump signed an executive order last September that ordered the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to ensure that federally funded facilities provide life-saving medical care to babies born alive after botched abortions.

“Every infant born alive, no matter the circumstances of his or her birth, has the same dignity and the same rights as every other individual and is entitled to the same protections under federal law.”
