President Joe Biden issued an executive order that will require colleges and universities to open single-sex dormitories (including shared rooms and showers) to people of the opposite sex, even Christian schools. The administration isn’t concerned about religious beliefs, rights of conscience, or the modesty, privacy, and safety of women. Biden is charging ahead with a radical agenda, citing the Supreme Court’s decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, a 6-3 case decided by a “conservative” Supreme Court that bars employment discrimination against homosexuals and “transgendered” people.
Life Site reported that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) filed an appeal this week to overturn court rulings that struck down the “transgender” mandate, which would force hospitals and medical professionals to perform “sex-change” surgery. The most recent case was heard in a federal court in North Dakota. Among the plaintiffs are the Sisters of Mercy.
The court blocked (PDF – five pages) HHS from enforcing the mandate against the Roman Catholic plaintiffs, contending that to do so would violate “their sincerely held religious beliefs without satisfying strict scrutiny under the RFRA.”
But Biden won’t take no for an answer. HHS is going after these religious groups to force them to associate themselves with and perform procedures that not only violate their beliefs but defy biology and common sense. From Life Site:
Tuesday’s appeal makes good on Biden’s threat to crack down on Catholic nuns who insist on their constitutional religious liberties. When the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Little Sisters of the Poor last year, upholding a Trump administration rule exempting them from the abortifacient coverage requirement of Obamacare, Biden said he was “disappointed.”
“If elected, I will restore the Obama-Biden policy that existed before the Hobby Lobby ruling,” he said, referring to a 2014 Supreme Court decision that initially exempted religious groups from covering contraception and abortion pills under the Affordable Care Act
President Biden, who calls himself a Roman Catholic, and the Democrats are doing what they said they would do if they regained power. The question is, what will the GOP do about it? They have no power, and, it seems, no will. They squandered their power when President Donald Trump was in office, and now leftists seem unstoppable.
