A HUGE Win for Parents’ Rights in Red State Florida — Court Upholds Law That Bans Teaching Sexual Content

To stop the indoctrination of impressionable children, Florida lawmakers passed a bill called the Parental Rights in Education Act, which bans government schools from teaching any sexual content, including sexual orientation and “gender identity,” to children in pre-K through third grade.

After third grade, any instruction on sexuality must be age-appropriate.

Schools also are barred from withholding information about a student’s emotional, mental, or physical health from parents.

Opponents of the law disingenuously call it the “Don’t Say Gay” law. Star Parker wrote in a column about the law. “Anyone who wants to publicize this as, ‘Don’t say gay’ should also publicize it as saying, ‘Don’t say straight.'”

Opponents filed a lawsuit to stop enforcement of the Parental Rights in Education Act, but a court on Monday upheld it. The ruling includes a settlement. The school board has to spell out exactly what is or isn’t permitted. From Fox News:

The Florida Board of Education will send instructions to every school district saying the Florida law doesn’t prohibit discussing LGBTQ+ people, nor prevent anti-bullying rules on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or disallow Gay-Straight Alliance groups.

Ryan Newman, general counsel for Governor Ron DeSantis, said that classrooms in Florida “will remain a safe place under the Parental Rights in Education Act.”
