CVS Settles Lawsuit with Nurse Fired for Refusing to Dispense Drugs That Could Induce Abortions

CVS has settled a lawsuit with Robyn Strader, who was a nurse practitioner, after revoking her religious exemption from dispensing drugs that could induce abortions

Strader, who had worked for a CVS MinuteClinic in Texas since 2015, first filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission. CVS claimed that exempting Strader presented an undue hardship, although she referred customers to another nurse in the store or to a location only two miles away.

CVS would not restore her religious accommodation. The company fired her, and she filed a lawsuit.

First Liberty Institute, Strader’s legal counsel, announced that the parties have settled the lawsuit.

“We are thrilled that Robyn was able to reach a resolution with CVS,” said Stephanie Taub, Senior Counsel for First Liberty Institute. “We are hopeful that companies across the country will recognize the religious liberty of their employees and work to protect those rights.”

According to First Liberty, the terms of the settlement are undisclosed.
