New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, is not alone in her attempt to suppress information about Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) services.
James harassed and intimidated pro-life pregnancy centers, accusing them of disseminating misinformation. Fact: if a pregnant woman has taken mifepristone, which induces abortions, taking progesterone could reverse the abortion. That is not misinformation. But James wants to censor it anyway.
Two federal courts issued preliminary injunctions to block enforcement. James is shut down for now.
California’s attorney general is doing the same to pro-life pregnancy centers in that state.
Like James, Rob Bonta sued pregnancy centers for sharing information about reversing abortions. According to Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), Bonta sued Heartbeat International and RealOptions Obria Medical Clinics for publishing information about APR.
ADF said that because Bonta’s lawsuit threatens other pregnancy centers and affiliated networks, attorneys filed a lawsuit against the AG on behalf of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates and SCV Pregnancy Center in Santa Clarita. An excerpt:
NIFLA and SCV Pregnancy Center wish to inform women in California who have taken the first abortion drug that it may be possible to counteract its lethal effects if they change their minds and seek treatment within 72 hours of taking the first drug. But their scientifically backed speech about the supplemental progesterone treatment is chilled by the attorney general’s censorship campaign against similar speech.
“Access to information is a hallmark of a free society and is essential to making informed medical choices,” said ADF Senior Counsel Caleb Dalton. “But California’s attorney general s silencing pregnancy centers and censoring information about life-saving medical options.”
Some woemn actually regret their abortions, Dalton added. “Women deserve to know all their options every step of the way.”
