First Amendment Under Attack — California AG Faces Two Pro-Life Organizations in Court

Abortion advocates don’t want women to know about reversing abortions. After taking drugs that induce abortions, women who change their minds can take progesterone, which may save their baby’s life.

Letitia James, New York’s attorney general, went after pro-life pregnancy centers to suppress this information. Rob Bonta, California’s attorney general, has done the same. He sued Heartbeat International and RealOptions Obria Medical Clinics for publishing information about reversing abortions.

Alarmed at this violation of the First Amendment, the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates and SCV Pregnancy Center in Santa Clarita, California, filed a lawsuit against him.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which represents the pro-life organizations, will argue the case in court today.

“Access to information is a hallmark of a free society and is essential to making informed medical choices,” said Caleb Dalton, the ADF lawyer who will argue the case. “Attorney General Bonta and his allies at Planned Parenthood may not like it, but the truth is that many women regret their abortions, and some seek to stop the effects of chemical abortion drugs before taking the second drug in the abortion drug process.”

Pregnancy centers have the freedom to tell women about life-saving treatment, Dalton added. Hopefully, the court will think so as well.
