BREAKING: Video Captures The Moment Gunfire Breaks Out In Canada’s Parliament Bldg

This is a fast-developing story — details are still being sorted out and confirmed.

There has been an attack by one or more gunmen both outside and inside of Parliament in Ottawa, Canada.

According to the latest information from the CBC, one man has been shot dead inside Parliament, after a man with a rifle shot a soldier standing guard at the War Memorial in downtown Ottawa. Police and witnesses are reporting more shots at other locations surrounding Parliament Hill.

Alain Merisier, who works at the cafeteria in the Parliament building, told CBC News that said he saw a man in a car at the Centre Block with a long gun.

Witnesses said they then heard shots fired, and there was an unconfirmed report of a person injured outside the Library of Parliament.

Police confirmed the shooting at the War Memorial, and sealed off the area while the injured soldier was given emergency medical aid. He was later put into an ambulance.

This comes only hours after a serious incident in Quebec in which two Canadian soldiers were attacked by a man thought to have ISIS ties. You can see the Western Journalism post on this attack by clicking here.

In this new incident in Ottawa, a Globe reporter who was in the Parliament building when the attack took place captured an exchange of gunfire in the extraordinary footage you can see by clicking on the video above.

The National Post reports:

“Gunman at Parliament’s Centre Block has been shot and killed,” Conservative MP Bernard Trottier tweeted at 10:30 a.m. Tory MP Bob Zimmer also reported the same. Those reports are unconfirmed as police are still actively searching the area and say it is “not a secure scene” as there may be multiple shooters.

Two sources told The Canadian Press that Kevin Vickers, the sergeant-at-arms for the House of Commons and 29-year RCMP veteran, shot a gunman. Both CBC and CTV are reporting a single gunman has been confirmed dead. updates the story with these details:

A gunman opened fire at the National War Memorial, wounding a soldier, then moved to nearby Parliament Hill and wounded a security guard before he was shot, reportedly by Parliament’s sergeant-at-arms.

Despite the shooting of the suspect, police and soldiers continued a chaotic hunt, leading to speculation there was more than one suspect.

The incident on Parliament Hill was an unprecedented breach of security, according to eyewitnesses.
