Empowering Parents — Curriculum Transparency is Now the Law in Florida

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida is America’s pro-parent governor. He recently signed a bill into law that should give parents some peace of mind about what government schools are teaching their children.

The governor recently signed HB 1467, which provides parents with curriculum transparency. Among other things, school principals “shall assure that instructional materials are used to provide instruction to students enrolled at the grade level or levels for which the materials are designed, pursuant to adopted district school board rule.” Principals also must “communicate to parents the manner in which instructional materials are used to implement the curricular objectives of the school.”

Gov. DeSantis signed the Parental Rights in Education bill into law earlier this month.

Under the new law, effective July 1, school boards must allow parents to be involved. Boards are required to establish a process by which parents or residents of the county can contest the board’s adoption of specific instructional material.

In a statement, Gov. DeSantis said that in his state, “our parents have every right to be involved in their child’s education. We are not going to let politicians deny parents the right to know what is being taught in our schools. I’m proud to sign this legislation that ensures curriculum transparency.”

  1. Hopefully, this new law will encourage more parents to be involved nightly in their child’s education. Ask what they did today? What did you learn? Help with homework, etc.
