Final Rule: No More Taxpayers’ Money for Abortion Clinics

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has finalized a rule on Friday that redirects federal tax dollars from abortion clinics like Planned Parenthood to family planning clinics. If a facility kills unborn babies, it can’t serve as a family planning facility. If the facility is designated a Title X location, it can’t even refer women to abortion clinics.

Taxpayer-supported family planning clinics must maintain separate finances and separate facilities from abortion clinics. Clinics may counsel on abortion, but they’re no longer required to do so.

The president of March for Life, the pro-life secular organization that won a court victory over the Obamacare contraceptive mandate, said that abortion “is neither healthcare nor family planning which is why the Title X program has no business funding it. We applaud HHS Secretary Azar and the Trump administration on this move that protects American taxpayers from paying for abortion through Title X.”
