A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
CURE hosted a press conference on February 22, 2013, at the National Press Club to speak out against gun control legislation:
Sheriff David A. Clarke, Jr., of Milwaukee, spoke at the 2014 National Rifle Association conference. His message to the government: “Keep your hands off our guns, dammit.”
From Jim Crow until the present day, black urban communities have been under siege. During the Black Codes era, the right to bear arms was taken away and perpetuated during Jim Crow. Today, only 16 percent of black Americans are armed, and in communities like Chicago where there is the most stringent of gun regulations, murder rates from gun violence are the highest in the nation.
